The Serpents of Darkness that Spread Hatred and Bigotry Everywhere

No two people, even identical twins, are born alike and no two minds think alike. That is the beauty of us, the complicated creature called human being. This is what my latest song “Disciples of Death” is about, listen here and read on for my thoughts on it.

Being Diverse, Being Unique and Being Free are what define us as human beings and they are what shaped our world all through history. From the early Sumerian civilization, to the indigenous Amazonian cultures to the people in the skyscrapers of New York and Dubai; Man, by being diverse, unique and free molded and shaped this round ball of land, water and air that we live on and made it what it is today.

Now imagine having 11 Messi’s in a football team: they would lose because no one in that team would play defense. Or having 5 Axl Roses in a band. Hint: it wouldn’t work. You need Slash’s solos, Duff’s bass lines, Izzy’s songwriting and Steven or Matt’s backbone beats to complement Axl’s astounding voice. Also, I can see many tour managers fainting just thinking of having to manage 5 Axl’s. Or also, just 2 businessmen/real estate moguls/golf course namesakes/wrestlers/orange haired ex-US Presidents with very sexy daughters (I can see 3.5 billion people around the world fainting just thinking of this idea).

Kidding aside, I’m just trying to point out the paramount importance of being unique and diverse. It’s something worth celebrating.

Now we come to the word “Freedom”. The one word in the dictionary that can claim the highest human death toll number amongst its peers. All throughout history, billions lost their lives in its name. Billions fought slavery, authoritarian dictators and ruthless conquerors just to see their children born without any shackles, born free.

Just picture William Wallace (Mel Gibson) uttering this word in his final scene in the timeless movie, Braveheart, and you can see the paramount importance of this word.

BUT! “Your freedom ends when it trespasses the freedom of others.” I can’t remember who said the aforementioned statement, but it is certainly timeless and universal.

We are entitled to be free in how we see the world. We are entitled to the freedom of thought and speech and we are obliged to respect each other even if we don’t see eye to eye on matters. But we are not entitled to impose our thoughts on others. We are not entitled to force others to think and act the way we want them to and we certainly are not entitled to brainwash the masses with poisonous ideas, thoughts and actions.

That’s what my latest single, “Disciples of Death'' speaks about. The “serpents of darkness that poison your thoughts,” forcing others to follow an evil agenda or a mad tyrant whose only endgame is evil, death and destruction. Listen here: https://band.link/disciplesofdeath

This song to me is pretty universal. We see this happening all around the world. From radical right movements that sentence others to death just for believing in another deity, to racist groups that judge and, not too long ago, lynch others just for having a different skin color, to anti feminists and homophobes that degrade others just for being born different. Not to mention, the latest attack on one Capitol building in the capital of the “Land of the free and home of the brave”.

Preachers of hate and hate groups are everywhere and all around us. They don’t only “dis”grace our beautiful planet with physical acts of crime but also our virtual world with vile bigotry.

Shamelessly defaming someone just for being different, having a different opinion than yours, or just for releasing a movie or a song that you didn’t like is also cruel and criminal.

As any psychologist would point out, hurting someone mentally can sometimes be more dangerous and detrimental than hurting them physically. These mental wounds might scar an individual forever and, even worse, might turn that individual into a psychopath with criminal intents and abilities. Just look at the many famous serial killers. They were all traumatized and scarred one way or the other before turning into the monsters they became.

And for the naysayers, No, this is not Freedom of speech… This is trespassing on another’s freedom. Clear as day, dark as night.

I’m not saying we cannot criticize each other and I’m not saying that we should always agree with each other and just nod our heads in accordance with everything (refer to what I wrote earlier about the importance of being diverse and unique). It’s just that there are ways in criticizing someone or conveying your message without beheading someone, vandalizing the house of congress or sounding like a complete A-hole. Having manners is what differentiates Humans from Beasts.

Being Unique defines us. Being Diverse helps us grow and move forward. Being Free is our sacred right. But understanding right from wrong and being respectful to one another makes us Human.
